Most often people ask “what is an undertone, how do I know my undertone and how does knowing my undertone benefit me”? This article is going to help us know what an undertone is, how to identify our undertones and how it will help us in our everyday life.
WHAT IS AN UNDERTONE?
An undertone is the color that is concealed under the skin that influences the overall shade.
TYPES OF UNDERTONE
- Cool undertone is associated with skin that has hints of pink, blue or ruddy red complexion.
- Warm undertone is more of the peachy, golden or yellow skin complexions.
- Neutral is a mixture of the warm and cool undertones.
HOW TO IDENTIFY MY UNDERTONE
There are so many ways to test for your undertone. Some of which are;
- Vein color
- White and off-white
- Burn or tan
- Silver or gold
VEIN COLOR
To be able to identify your undertone using the vein color then we need to identify the color of our veins. Are your veins blue or purple, if yes then you have a cool undertone and if your veins are greenish in color then you have a warm undertone. But if you realize your veins are neither then you might be having a neutral undertone.
WHITE OR OFF-WHITE
Next try putting on a white or an off-white (a white color with a grey or yellowish tinge) dress.
Which of these two dresses looks good on you? If it’s the white dress then you have a warm undertone and if you look good in the off-white dress then you have a cool undertone. If you look good in both of them then you have a neutral undertone.
BURN AGAINST TAN
Another thing that should be observed when trying to determine your undertone is how quickly you burn or tan. If you burn quickly and then tan, then you probably have a cool undertone but if you tan quickly then its likely you have a warm undertone. If you don’t burn often and tan slowly then you are most likely neutral.
SILVER OR GOLD
Does silver jewelry look sexy against your skin, if it’s a yes then you have a cool undertone. And if gold looks more glamorous and gorgeous on you then you have a warm undertone. But if you look good in either gold or silver jewelry then you have a neutral undertone.
BENEFITS OF KNOWING YOUR UNDERTONE
Knowing your undertone is very beneficial to everyone but the question is what are the benefits.
- It helps in choosing your clothes and jewelry
- It helps in choosing your beauty products (foundation, concealer, bronzer, etc.)
And many more.
